LPK Firm & Attorneys Recognized by Martindale-Hubbell, Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers
February 1, 2012 - Last year was marked by success for Levy Phillips & Konigsberg LLP, as a number of the firm’s esteemed members, as well as the firm itself, have garnered acclaim from top legal publications for their excellence in public service, further establishing LPK as one of the nation’s premier law firms.
Martindale-Hubbell honored five of LPK’s partners and one of counsel - Steven J. Phillips, Alan J. Konigsberg, Robert I. Komitor, Moshe Maimon, Jerome H. Block, and Stanley J. Levy, respectively - with an AV® Preeminent™ rating, the highest recognition given from the nationwide Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Ratings™.
These six were also recognized by Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers, two of the most prestigious and respected peer-review publications in the legal profession. Alan Konigsberg and associate Theresa A. Vitello were recognized for their work on U.S. ex rel. Dr. Gabriel Feldman v. the City of New York.
Joining them in their accolades were Audrey Perlman Raphael, a partner at LPK who received a Best Lawyers distinction, and Daniel Woodard, an associate, who Super Lawyers named one of New York’s Rising Stars.
Stanley J. Levy has been a pioneer in the effort to obtain compensation for asbestos and mesothelioma victims in America, filing some of the nation’s earliest asbestos lawsuits in the 1970s. He litigated many of the first groundbreaking asbestos and mesothelioma lawsuits that established the knowledge of the dangers of asbestos exposure. Mr. Levy’s trail-blazing work has paved the way for many thousands of victims of asbestos and mesothelioma to obtain financial compensation nationwide.
Steven J. Phillips, a senior partner and founding member of LPK, heads the firm's toxic torts and appellate practice. He enjoys a nationwide reputation as a plaintiffs’ lawyer representing victims of occupational and environmental hazards. Steve's pioneering work in the prosecution of groundwater contamination, nuclear radiation, and asbestos litigation has yielded precedent-setting successes.
Alan J. Konigsberg, a senior and founding member of LPK, specializes in complex litigation, including infant lead poisoning and whistleblower cases. In November of last year, Mr. Konigsberg helmed the prosecution in a Medicaid Fraud lawsuit that secured a $70 million dollar settlement, $14.7 million of which went to the qui-tam client.
Robert I. Komitor, who was mentored by Mr. Levy, has become one of the most formidable mesothelioma lawyers in the nation. Mr. Komitor has won many multi-million dollar jury verdicts in asbestos and mesothelioma lawsuits including several verdicts in excess of $10 Million. Mr. Komitor's jury verdicts include a $19.5 Million jury verdict - the largest jury verdict ever handed down against a manufacturer of insulated cable.
Moshe Maimon is a partner at LPK. He is a litigation specialist handling complex personal injury cases involving asbestos and mesothelioma, toxic substances, pharmaceuticals, defective consumer products, and medical malpractice, as well as consumer fraud and other commercial litigation matters. Moshe has personally tried and been part of legal teams that have won some of the largest damage awards in the country. Moreover, many of these cases have yielded landmark appellate court decisions.
Jerome H. Block, at the age of thirty-eight, is among the youngest lawyers ever selected to the Best Lawyers List. Mr. Block has become nationally known for his jury verdicts in mesothelioma and asbestos lung cancer lawsuits. Mr. Block’s jury verdicts include a $22 Million mesothelioma compensation award on behalf of two New York mesothelioma victims, as well as the first ever asbestos compensation verdict against the welding industry.
Audrey Perlman Raphael has specialized in asbestos litigation and every year achieves numerous multimillion-dollar settlements against manufacturers and suppliers of dangerous asbestos products. She led the way discovering that many different types of equipment and products contain asbestos. She was one of the first attorneys to conduct depositions of mesothelioma and lung cancer victims who were exposed to asbestos from cigarette filters, pizza ovens, welding rods, automotive friction products and residential boilers.
Daniel Woodard specializes in medical malpractice, infant lead poisoning, product liability and general tort litigation. He has been a part of numerous multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements. Dan was the lead trial attorney in an infant lead poisoning case where he obtained an $8.5 million dollar verdict on behalf of a lead poisoned child. Dan was also the lead trial attorney in a case that resulted in a $2.45 million dollar verdict on behalf of a young woman who was lead poisoned as a child.
In addition to this outstanding display of individual merit, LPK was recognized by Best Lawyers as one of The Nation’s Best Law Firms for 2011-2012. This momentous achievement reflects the composite excellence, passion and professionalism that LPK consistently brings to its vocation, and which has become the firm’s living legacy.
Thus, individually and collectively, it has been a truly impressive year for LPK. There is no doubt, given these myriad honors, that LPK is bound to continue its success in the years to come.
