BIRTH DEFECTS & INJURIES OVERVIEW
Every year, thousands of children are born with birth defects ranging in severity from minor to life-threatening. There are over 4000 recognized birth defects affecting the heart, digestive system, face, spine, limbs, brain, eyes, kidneys, and bladder.
For a number of birth defects, the causes are unknown. However, many birth defects, including Erb’s and Cerebral Palsy, may be attributed to medical malpractice, a parent’s exposure to chemicals and toxic chemicals before or during pregnancy, environmental hazards or medications.
